Game Title: Phoenix Wright
Your name: Ies Wierdsma
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
The area where Phoenix Wright excels in is immersion in the storyline. And to me, the music of the series helped immensely.
Throughout the game the protagonist goes through a roller coaster of emotions and the music tells you exactly what emotion to feel: defeat, victory, tension, concentration, relaxation. They are all very well composed for these story events and are (together with the shouting of "OBJECTION" of course) really iconic for the series.
[Also check out the music performed by a real orchestra... pure awesomeness]

Game Title: Silent Hill 1
Your name: Tom Weeland
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
A little bit of gameplay from the first Silent Hill. Why pretty? Because of the way sound ties in with gameplay. The main character carries a radio with him that emits static whenever a monster gets close to him. Considering there is no minimap and he is surrounded by fog, the static is the only way the player knows when an enemy is nearby. And because the static gets louder when an enemy gets closer it also builds a lot of tension.

Game Title: Noby Noby Biy
Your name: Rick Jacobs
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
Noby Noby Boy is a weird game without any purpose, even the developer himself said "I don't know what this fuck this is"
But a fact is: the soundtrack of the game is the most annoying soundtrack I have ever heared..
If you are playing this game and this song gets looped all the time, I think you will go mad

Game Title: Toy stories 1
Your name: Martijn
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
The sound in this game is bad in my opinion. the background music is just a short loop. And the game gives almost no audio-feedback what-so-ever. It also has some bad voice acting at almost completely random moments. the only recognizable sounds is the cracking of the whip and the picking up of coins.

Game Title: Guild Wars (Prophecies)
Your name: Kevin van Nes
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
There are a lot of MMORPG games that have epic music, such as World of Warcraft and Aion Online, but there is one MMO that should not be forgotten when it comes to incredibly pretty music and that is Guild Wars.
Every piece of music in this game fits in great with the environment that the player is walking in at that moment.
In my opinion, one of the best (if not THE best) songs in this game is the one above, the Crystal Oasis soundtrack.

Game Title: Area 51
Your name: Martijn
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
Personally i think the voice acting is slightly above average. But i like the sound of the pistol as well as the bullet impacting on the practice targets. Voice distortion through microphones also sounds natural in my opinion. though the sound of picking up stuff like ammo or healthpacks is bad, sounding way too organic.

Game Title: Runescape
Your name: Kevin van Nes
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
RuneScape is an MMORPG with a few of the worst songs and sounds in such games so far.
Not only are sounds not timed right with the animations, but they're also kind of old and there hasn't been much improvement in the past years.
Most of the sounds in the game are also very unrealistic. An example of this is when a female player dies, a sound is played as if someone is killing a cat.
Also most of the sounds are very disturbing, because of them being repeated all the time. Such as sounds when a person is being hit or is hitting something. The short clip above is an example of one of the worst sounds to be heard in this game.
P.S. Do mention the sound of the player being hit by the monster, it's also very ugly.

Game Title: Phantasy Star Online
Your name: Ies Wierdsma
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
PSO is great. Sadly, the game's sound design isn't.
I spend hours upon hours in this game and hearing the same (light)saber sound is incredibly annoying. The sound itself reminds me of a sound accompanying an error message. It's the same sound over and over and over. It would have sounded much better if they only changed the pitch of the sound for different movements of the saber.
The same goes for the footstep sound for this particular character. *STOMP**STOMP**STOMP* etc. until the game ends. It gives me the idea the sound designer never spend more than 10 minutes playing this game.
The constant audible clue for selecting an enemy could be less intrusive to the ears as well.
It seemed like the sound designer really wanted his sounds to be noticed, sadly.

Game Title: Unreal Tournament
Your name: Jethro Jongeneel
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
Who does not not know the Unreal Tournament announcer sounds?
It's (unofficially) been used in almost every online shooter and well, listening to the male announcer, I can't complain.
One word: GODLIKE!
