Final Fantasy XIII

Game Title: Final Fantasy XIII
Your name: Jephta Peijs
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
The most annoying sound I noticed in gameplay is the giggling of Vanille in FFXIII. The foodsteps are pretty bad too, especially because they sound the same in every environment (on a crystal lake or metal plates, it's all the same).

Wolfenstein 3D – Episode 1 – Escape

Game Title: Wolfenstein 3D – Episode 1 – Escape
Your name: Arsène van de Bilt
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
I think the background music in this game is just appalling. It doesn't fit the game at all. The background music makes the game sound like some sort of platformer, while it is fps. Also I think the pick-up sounds are really off in the game, they sound sci-fi-ish, not like you're in WWII, picking up items like ammo and gold. Also voice acting gets pretty annoying after a while, very little unique sounds and sometimes the sounds are pitched way off, are are way too loud.

VVVVVV Gameplay – Time Trails – Space

Game Title: VVVVVV Gameplay – Time Trails – Space
Your name: Arsène van de Bilt
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
I think the music in this game is amazing. The 8bit music gives the game a very vivid vibe and fits the gameplay and visuals extremely well. The other sounds, the start sound, jumping, dying etc. fit this game very well too.

Battlefield Bad Company 2

Game Title: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Your name: Bob Gussenhoven
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
Everything about the in-game sound is just perfect and you can clearly hear they paid a lot of attention to every little detail. From the direct gun and vehicle sounds to the environmental reverb, music sources and 3d ambient sounds like flies. There's even a part where sound becomes an imporant part of the gameplay because you have to hold your fire and wait for the thunder to cover the sound of your shot.

Heavenly Sword

Game Title: Heavenly Sword
Your name: Gor HKU
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
The sound in this game is very good in my opinion. It plays different sounds together and everything fits together and it works fine. The background, weapons and action sounds together form a whole.

Prince of Persia (1989)

Game Title: Prince of Persia (1989)
Your name: Fabian van Dommelen
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
Although this game is quite old and doesn't feature a whole lot of sounds, the ones it has are carved into my memory. From the rhythmic footsteps, the ticking of timed gates, the horrifying death-scream at a deep fall or the sickening 'chomp' when you're sliced up by a chopper trap.

Each and every one of those sounds are purely functional and a pleasure to hear. Even though some signify your demise quite gruesomely and make you cringe in pain. Superbly done for such an old game.

Source

Game Title: Counter-Strike: Source
Your name: Bob Gussenhoven
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
I find the in-game voice sounds very monotonous and outdated. They are also very repetitive and can get very anoying. Especially when people throw grenades and you keep hearing the same loop saying "fire in the hole".

Minesweeper

Game Title: Minesweeper
Your name: Rick Lemmen
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
this movie gives an exemple of the sounds in the windows 7 version of minesweeper. I don't really like the sounds. Though they are wel executed, for this game the sounds are way to smooth. With minesweeper there should be crapy 8 bits music and sound effects. Also, i think the explosion sounds are not effective enough. There should be a bigger bang when you mis-click.

fable II

Game Title: fable II
Your name: Rick Lemmen
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description:
The music really hits me on Fable II. The style of the music fits the game (duh), but it also changes in a really nice way when situations change. With the sounds of the voices this combines nicely creating a balanced experience.

Behind Enemy Lines

Game Title: Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Your name: Fabian van Dommelen
Pretty or ugly: Ugly
Description:
Although the game is great, the lack of background sound, ambience and the repetitive low quality voicebits ingame can really get on your nerves in missions that can stretch into the hours.
< 1:01 > The mission starts with some epic music and then descends into silence, broken only by the sounds of the enthusiastic four or so lines per commando.

< 2:48 > The diver goes underwater and is faced by a three-second bubble loop.
