Game Title: Unreal Tournament 2004
Your name: Jens Wouters
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description: UT2004 is the first FPS where I really paid attention to the sound. The quality just blew my mind.
The music is very epic and sounds very full. The more relaxing music, named Level8, also has the same quality feel, although it differs from the otherwise adrenaline pumping epic music.
The two sounds I’m the most impressed with are these from the shock rifle combo and the explosion of the core in the Onslaught mode. These explosions sound as explosions are meant to sound. Of course, to fully enjoy these sounds, you need a decent soundcard and speakers/headphones.
In the past, I actually played some matches pure to enjoy the sound. I did a deathmatch with robot only bots and the instagib mutator. If you were playing a small map, the map was constantly filled with the sound of metal pieces flying around.
The movie above doesn’t do the sound justice. In fact, this movie is the only one where the sound is decent enough to hear it, but it’s a bit too strong, causing it to distort a bit.
For the real experience, go play the game yourself with a good sound set-up. If you want to listen to the music, you just can go to the music folder of the game and open them with any media player that is capable of playing the ogg vorbis codec.

Description: The login screen is one of the times I am very annoyed with the sound in this game. Each time I start it up, I hear that terrible dragon shriek through my speakers and it horrifies me each time. The sound is just unbearable!

Game Title: Super Mario Sunshine
Your name: Jordi de Rijk
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description: Everytime Mario jumps he makes a sound that is clearly distinguishable as 'Mario'. This unique identity to such a simple phrase has taken years to build up yet has not changed character. I love its recognisability.

Description: What's not to hate about this game. Is there anything good about this. Well maybe the opening title screen but the rest of the sound is just terrible. Weird bleeps that sound out of place at times. (I have no clue what I'm listening to.)
Doesn't remind me of the movie at all. Considering the game had terrible design it's only logical that the sound follows >.>
Course it's a bit unfair considering the game is this old but around that time they were actually able to create suatable sound effects even this limited.

Game Title: The Legend of Zelda OOT
Your name: Joeri van Ees
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description: Where to begin.
First it starts with complete silence (not even a sound for advancing text). Only a short crinch by link. Then your dragged into his dream with thunder and heavy rain. Then you hear the horse gallop by which leads into a loud organ tune introducing the villain of the game.
The your carried into a subtle tension building track (bg of deku tree). You read about the perills before you. (also note the sound that tells the player when a convo is about to end)
The navi fly's of with a mystical piano tune (reminds me of children playing) with a bigger tempo while navi is flying through kokiri forest. Navi even greets children of the forest (notifying the player how she sounds since that sound is important throughout the whole game).
Enter the house theme. A comfortable theme with a friendly feeling. (can't really describe it better then that sorry)
When you leave the house the kokiri song starts (with a introduction that pays attention to the environment opening in front of you) Then you can start walking around.
Such a memorable moment when I first experienced it.

Game Title: Heroes Of Might And Magic V
Your name: Frank Brilhuis
Pretty or ugly: Pretty
Description: All Heroes Of Might And Magic versions have good sound effects and music in my opinion. They really know how to make accents on the feeling of the game. It really strengthens the feeling of the game. Also most of the time the music that is played in the battle scenes is the same. Yet it doesn't feel like it's looping or repeating the whole time. .
