The engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner. The turbo sounds like someone blowing in a straw and has nothing to do with neither speed nor power.
The drifts are (in my opninion) incoherent, really loud and sound like crap. Even-though there are multiple sounds for drifting, the sound designers fail to create a link between drifting and audio.
Last but not least: Dutch Voice Acting. Horrible. It reminds me of a fair-trade ("A-A-Alweer een winnaar -aar!"). If that's what they were going for: Job Well Done.

when the menu opens, you hear a wierd sounding voice echo, what doens't blend in the background music at all. then when the game begins with a little intro and text, you hear a harsh wind noise with no interesting movement in it. The footsteps sound all same, as does the gunshot. It doesn't sound like a gun at all, the sound is much too thin.
when the second level starts, the background sounddesign is way too loud, the birds are really annoying.
No impressive sound when the player jumps on a creature to kill it and sounds really dull.
Suddenly you hear A lot of frogs, when the player walks away, the frog sound dissapairs instantly instead of a fade oud.

Arcanum has one of the best and unforgettable video game scores ever made. It's played by a live string quartet and composed by Ben Houge.

In this clip you can also hear some effects used and voice acting in the very end. The sound design in Arcanum truly enchances the overall gaming experience. Especially the dialogue scenes are worth checking out. Unfortunately in this clip you can't see actual game footage.

The bird does't sound like a bird at all, more like a helicopter. And the music is very annoying because when you walk out of the screen the music stretches a meassure.

Game Title: Ninja Gaiden Sigma

This game is an HD re-release of the original Ninja Gaiden, so you'd think it's the same game, apart from small updates. Visually it is indeed nice, but something in the sound department has gone horribly wrong. The music during gameplay is panned completely to the left. A few sound effects in menus are also panned completely, but others are not, so it's very inconsistent. In other places, sounds are just missing. Parts of the original voice acting are also removed, and I sincerely have no clue why.
This probably doesn't bother everyone. But for me, being a veteran of the series, it's the perfect example of bad game sound.

This was one of the best games of its time and the music and sound effects greatly contributed to that. The soundtrack was beautiful and diverse, with a mix of orchestral and eastern instruments and an electronic drive to it, which fitted the (sometimes insanely difficult) hack&slash action and made you want to go on and become better. The sound effects were also good, with a lot of variety in slashes.

Game Title: Journey to the Center of the Earth

Horrendous voice acting. The player is in a cave filled with lava, but the voice acting is so bad that it totally destroys any atmosphere created by the visuals.

Sounds feel real and music immerses you in the game. The sound of the lasergun/magnetizer is rewarding and gives more meaning to play with it. There's three kind of music styles in the game: symphony orchestra, old blues and legendary tracker music with more contemporary sounds. Symphony orchestra is the only thing that feels a bit weird in this game.
